Sabine - Before and After by IvyHeartDesigns Sabine - Before and After by IvyHeartDesigns
Sabine was created using a Monster High Draculaura doll as the base. All factory paint was completely removed and she was given a full facial repaint in artist acrylics and sealers. I wanted to keep her gorgeous hair this time, so I took down the ponytail and heat straightened her hair. I then washed, conditioned and style cut it into soft layers but still left it long.

I am not affiliated with Mattel or any other doll company. I simply use their gorgeous dolls as a canvas for my own artistic expression! :)

Oh WOW! I LOVE those green eyes! So, you used acrylic paints? I am working on my very first re-paint but I am using the watercolor pencils and pastels...and am having some trouble with it. I have been considering to start over and just try using the paints instead. Thanks so much for sharing her with us. She is very beautiful!

Thanks so much sweetie, I'm glad you like her. I work pretty much with just acrylic paints and a little pastel for eyeshadows. I've never really used watercolour pencils, so I couldn't really tell you much about them but I LOVE acrylics! No matter what medium you use, it always takes time and lots of practice but if you dedicate the time to it, you will see great results very quickly! Have fun with it! :huggle:

May I ask you what kind (brand) of paint to do you use to paint the face?
I have never tried to repaint but I want to try.

your work is lovely. I was wondering, do you think you'd ever make a tutorial or step-by-step? if not, do you know of any good ones you can point me in the direction of? thanks for your help!

Thanks so much for the lovely compliment! I have wanted to put some tutorials together for some time but thats the key word... 'TIME'! LOL I just don't seem to ever have enough of it these days.
I had a link to 'Dolls by Maria' where there were heaps of links for various tutorial but after checking it just now for you, it seems she has pulled her website down and its now only a blog and the resource page isn't there. If your interested in purchasing any tutorials, I can highly recommend Donna Anne... heres the link...

She has all sorts of tutorials and they are well done.. and well priced. I hope that is some help to you!

How do you remove the paint from the dolls before painting them? I am struggling getting Draculaura's heart off with acetone based nailpolish. if you don't mind me asking of course

No problem at all... I would say the acetone nailpolish remover is the problem as its kind of watered down with other ingredients. The best thing to use is pure acetone. It takes all of it off with no scrubbing or dirty marks. Just be very careful not to get it on the hair or plastic body parts or it will melt them. And I always wash the face with mild baby soap straight after I clean off the paint to help neutralise the acetone. Its also a good idea to leave the doll for at least 12 hours so the vinyl goes back to normal. Hope that helps!

I figured out the problem! I knew I had used the nail polish before so I didn't know why it wasn't working. I got my nail polishes mixed up! I wasn't using the maximum strength. After I switched, it came off with no problem. Where can I find pure acetone? Thank you for being so helpful...some people have just been rude & told me to go fly a kite.

I know, some people like to keep their information to themselves but I know how hard it is to get help when you need it. And anyway, you meet such lovely people this way! :)
Glad you worked out what the problem was. I get pure acetone from my Chemist... if your in the US, you probably call it your Drugstore. Here in Australia you can also get it from hardware stores in the paint section. You could try that too. I used to use nail polish remover and honestly, I couldn't believe the difference when I swapped to acetone. It was great!
