Hi Everyone, this is my latest custom repaint... I named her Katya. (not sure why but I think it was the hair for some reason! lol) She is the Model no 4 from the Barbie Basics range. I completely removed her factory paint and gave her a full facial repaint with gorgeous moss green eyes and light plum lips. Her lovely hair was heat crimped and then I washed, conditioned and cut/styled it. I also settled it all down again with heat so it has a nice soft wave. Hope you like her! She is up on ebay if anyone is interested...
THIS IS JUST GORGEOUS! The eyes are captivating. I was wondering if you would be willing to share some tips or tricks for painting eyes, I have started doing ooak dolls and repaints and as much as I can do sketching doesnt come across with as much life in paint. So I was wondering if you could share a tip or two Thanks, and all your dolls are amazing!
Thanks so much for your very kind words! I'm always happy to help with advice... is there anything specific you'd like to know? Just note me and I'll be very happy to help. In regards to tips and tricks for painting eyes... there are so many effective ways to paint eyes but I guess the most important thing that I have found is to always do your painting in layers... lots of thin layers. You will get much nicer blends this way. Also, I always paint my eyeballs (not my own that is! lol) with white for the first few coats (thin coats) and then the last coat I mix either the tiniest bit of blue or black into the white to make a very faint grey or grey/blue tint. It really works wonders in making an eyeball seem round and you can deepen the colour at the inner and outer corners to create more shadow and therefore more dimension and depth. Another tip is to paint tiny flecks of a complimentary colour around the pupil... make sure its soft and muted. I tend to use burnt sienna alot... if you look at some of my girls with blue or green eyes, you should be able to see it. It seems to give lovely depth to the iris. There are so many things you learn along the way that work a treat but the best advice I can give is to keep practicing... I know its very cliche'd but its so true. In 6 months time, you will be amazed at what your producing! Hope that helps a little and as I said, any questions just note me.
Thanks! I appreciate the words of wisdom, you are so right about practice. but thanks for some direction on what to practice
I was wondering about price ranges for selling them, and how long a doll/barbie takes to sell usually ...I dont want to price to high and miss a sale but not to low so I dont get anything back for my input....and i do know that dolls from amazing artists like your self sell for more because of the skill level. but if you could help me out with a range for just a doll, a doll and costume, and a doll and scene/display set? Thanks sooo much i appreciate it immensely! Thanks
This is a lovely makeover As others have mentioned, the green eyes go so much better with the reds in her hair I also love the subtle cool colours in her lips; it ties the colour in quite nicely with the rest of the image
